September 2026 Update

August was an odd month. I wasn’t able to touch my writing as much as I would have liked. My health decided it was time to be weird in just the right ways to make sitting at a computer and focusing difficult, and when it was behaving, I had other things I had to be doing. That said, I did get part of a chapter of The Crystalline Alliance rewritten from a different POV, which was a lot of fun. There’s one or two more I may need to do that with, but I still need to decide for sure and whose POV I’d switch to.

Part of what was keeping me busy towards the end of the month was Heroic Youth’s Hero Quest and Summit. That was a really good time. I got to be part of the villainous side of a simulation that taught redemption in such a powerful way. When two kids give themselves up to fulfil the debts of others, then in turn are redeemed… that was powerful. I’m glad I get to take part in this event every year.

August 2026 Update

It’s been a busy month! Lots of events and prepping for events, and more writing! Summer tends to be full of events that require a lot of preparation, and we’re right in the middle of it. I helped out at the largest colonial village outside the original 13 colonies for the 250, which was a cool way to celebrate, though exhausting. I also attended Gen Con, which was an awesome experience. So much going on and I only got to a fraction of it. I learned a lot of things to help me maximize my experience next time I go. Lots of cool people to meet!
One of the most exciting things that happened was a tornado warning going off on Saturday night. We happened to be at an interior restaurant at the time, then their fire alarm started going off! It was really confusing being told to go inside and outside at the same time, but luckily, there was no fire (but there was flooding in the building) and the EF0 funnel that touched down wasn’t close to where we were. Everyone was talking about it for days afterwards and people even made ribbons and dice about it.
As far as writing goes, I finished my first editing pass for the third draft! There’s still a lot of work to be done on it, but what I’ve started working on has been much more fun. I’ve also been plugging along on my short story, but it’s been a lot heavier than I anticipated it was going to be and I’ve had to go at it in little bursts so I don’t get too weighed down. I’m excited for how it’s going to turn out though!

July 2026 Update

I’ve been remiss in posting on my blog here, but I’ve been busy! Lots of work on The Crystalline Alliance, and since last update, I’ve gotten married! I promise I’ll be better about posting on the website, but it only gets a fraction of the newsletter updates.

July’s Update

I’ve been putting a lot more effort in taking care of myself with how I eat and exercise, and I’m feeling a lot better and getting more done. I’m grateful to finally be to a point again where I can improve on my health, rather than stabilize it. It’s allowed me to get a lot more done on the editing front, and I only have a couple more weeks of my first editing pass of The Crystalline Alliance! I’m hoping the second pass will go much faster and I can start a beta read soon. I’ve also started writing the short story that will go between Escape from Salmira and Gemtouched. The character it follows has more complexities than I’m used to, so it’s taking me a bit longer to get through, just to make sure I’m putting in the research I need to.
Kingdoms went well for as long as I could be there. I was in a choir concert later that night, so I had to leave early. I’m excited to see where things go next year! I’m also excited for the rest of the upcoming events I have coming up this year. Gencon this month, then Heroic Youth next month! I’m hoping to have more events this year, but I’m still waiting to hear back on decisions being made.
