It’s been a busy month! Lots of events and prepping for events, and more writing! Summer tends to be full of events that require a lot of preparation, and we’re right in the middle of it. I helped out at the largest colonial village outside the original 13 colonies for the 250, which was a cool way to celebrate, though exhausting. I also attended Gen Con, which was an awesome experience. So much going on and I only got to a fraction of it. I learned a lot of things to help me maximize my experience next time I go. Lots of cool people to meet!
One of the most exciting things that happened was a tornado warning going off on Saturday night. We happened to be at an interior restaurant at the time, then their fire alarm started going off! It was really confusing being told to go inside and outside at the same time, but luckily, there was no fire (but there was flooding in the building) and the EF0 funnel that touched down wasn’t close to where we were. Everyone was talking about it for days afterwards and people even made ribbons and dice about it.
As far as writing goes, I finished my first editing pass for the third draft! There’s still a lot of work to be done on it, but what I’ve started working on has been much more fun. I’ve also been plugging along on my short story, but it’s been a lot heavier than I anticipated it was going to be and I’ve had to go at it in little bursts so I don’t get too weighed down. I’m excited for how it’s going to turn out though!

I’ve been remiss in posting on my blog here, but I’ve been busy! Lots of work on The Crystalline Alliance, and since last update, I’ve gotten married! July’s Update
I’ve been putting a lot more effort in taking care of myself with how I eat and exercise, and I’m feeling a lot better and getting more done. I’m grateful to finally be to a point again where I can improve on my health, rather than stabilize it. It’s allowed me to get a lot more done on the editing front, and I only have a couple more weeks of my first editing pass of The Crystalline Alliance! I’m hoping the second pass will go much faster and I can start a beta read soon. I’ve also started writing the short story that will go between Escape from Salmira and Gemtouched. The character it follows has more complexities than I’m used to, so it’s taking me a bit longer to get through, just to make sure I’m putting in the research I need to.
Kingdoms went well for as long as I could be there. I was in a choir concert later that night, so I had to leave early. I’m excited to see where things go next year! I’m also excited for the rest of the upcoming events I have coming up this year. Gencon this month, then Heroic Youth next month! I’m hoping to have more events this year, but I’m still waiting to hear back on decisions being made.
For being the shortest month of the year, February has had a lot going on!
I’ve picked up steam on Gemtouched Memoirs 3, which is coming along nicely. Well, my characters might not think so, but I do. Still moving slower than I’d like, and I’ve pushed out my projected completion date to the end of May, but that’s mainly because I’ve been working on a lot of other projects.
The second draft of my new series is done! That’s one less thing to be working on for a while, until my writing group gets through it, which should be at the end of April.
I went to the Life, The Universe, and Everything Symposium (commonly known as LTUE), which was a lot of fun for me. I learned a lot, met some awesome people, and will definitely be applying to be a panelist next year. You know you’re a writer when some of the favorite panels you attended were on comma usage, utilities and infrastructure, and black markets.
I also went filking for the first time, folk singing of sci-fi and fantasy fans, which was a blast, and I look forward to doing it more in the future. I’ll be bashing the balrog for a while, won’t ever set the cat on fire, will continue to beg a stick to become a fire, and will break free with the wicked girls saving themselves.
And finally, but perhaps most exciting, typesetting for the hardcover of Escape from Salmira is almost done! I should be finishing that up today, then it’s just adjusting the cover before ordering the proof! Once I receive that, I’ll see if any other adjustments need to be made, but expect to see the hardcover available next month!
